Saturday, 31st May 2014 was a day full of excitement and anticipation as students from Glastry and St. Columba's Colleges brought their battery operated kitcar to Nutts Corner for our first race outing. Kitted out in race suits, helmets and gloves, every driver had 2 time trials as each came to grips with the undulations and twists of the 1km circuit. Last minute alterations were made to the car, before being called to the grid and in no time we were under starters orders. 3, 2, 1 and his flag signalled the beginning of the first race. All cars 'whispered' forward and we were off for 90 minutes racing. Problems with the motor mounting and a loose chain created anxious moments as we hurriedly prepared the car for the second race. Prize distribution took place at 6.00pm and whilst we didn't make it onto the podium our electric car successfully completed the 2 races without fault - a wonderful achievement for all involved and we are all looking forward to repeating the experience next year.
