Key Stage 4

Mrs Mary Gallagher, Head of Key Stage 4
Mrs Mary Gallagher, Head of Key Stage 4

As Head of Key Stage 4, I have overall responsibility for the academic, behavioural and emotional development of the pupils in Years 11 and 12, providing support, advice and guidance when required.  I insist upon high standards of behaviour, uniform and attendance and lead my team of Form Teachers in the management of these areas, as well as the issues of homework and pupil punctuality.

Regular monitoring of the academic progress of these pupils enables me to take early action, in addressing the needs of those whose progress is giving cause for concern.  By working closely with the Form Teachers, the SENCO and Head of Departments I can identify pupils at risk of underachievement and make contact with parents and guardians, to discuss possible intervention strategies towards improvement. When necessary, I liaise with relevant external agencies to ensure the pastoral and educational needs of my pupils are met on the path towards their chosen career.

Personally, I find the role of Head of Key Stage a challenging and varied one, however ultimately very rewarding, as you see the students you are responsible for learn and flourish during their GCSE. course
